Learning ballroom dance has been a wonderful hobby of mine, but I've found myself struggling with a common challenge: remembering all the specific steps and feeling a bit shy about practicing them in a social setting. I often found myself wishing for a private space where I could review the sequences at my own pace, without any pressure. While descriptions were helpful, I realized I really needed visual aids—diagrams that could show me the movement patterns to truly solidify my understanding.

To address this, I decided to create a simple, interactive web application. With Google Gemini's help, I built a tool that displays dance steps with clear descriptions. The development process was iterative and user-centered; as I used the initial text-based version, I realized the critical need for diagrams. Gemini then helped me integrate inline SVG diagrams for each step, which has been incredibly helpful for visualizing the movements. We started with Waltz steps and then expanded to include a Foxtrot step, making the tool increasingly useful.

This project has had a significant impact on my practice. Having a dedicated, private space to review steps, complete with visual cues, has boosted my confidence. It allows me to reinforce my learning and prepare for social dancing without the anxiety of forgetting a step. Beyond the personal benefit, this application also serves as a practical demonstration of iterative design and user-centered development, making it a valuable addition to my UX portfolio. I'm excited about its potential and how it showcases my ability to identify a problem and develop a functional, user-friendly solution.
